Notification Scripts

In previous versions, the Completion Notification and Receipt Notification script configurations were identical, but accessed through different buttons on the Notification Control record because they were stored in different database tables. In order to accommodate the new Notification Server mechanism and to allow for future enhancements, all Notification Scripts are now configured through a single list.

This list is accessed through the Manage Scripts button on the Notification Control form. Records in the list can be created, changed, and deleted using the standard list buttons described in the FaxAction Admin Manual.

Changes to records in this list do not take effect until all Notification Servers are either stopped and restarted or are instructed to re-read their configuration through FaxAction Server Administrator.

Record Details

Record Name is used to uniquely identify individual notification scripts of a specified Type.

The RTF Body File field is used to specify the name of the file that contains the script used when fax notifications are sent for this record. This field must contain the fully qualified name of the file on the server that Notification Server is running on. The drive for this file must be specified as though the user was sitting at the FaxAction Server terminal, even though the Find button may specify a different drive. This field is required to contain data, but the path is not validated due to the fact that Admin could be running on a machine other than the FaxAction server. The file must be saved in Microsoft’s Rich Text Format (RTF) file format. This file format can be generated using WordPad (Windows NT or Windows 95) or Word. RTF allows formatting of the text using various fonts and type sizes and also allows several types of pictures (Bitmaps, Windows Meta Files, etc.) to be included in the document.

When pressed, the Find button will display a standard Windows Find File Dialog to locate the script file. It should only be used when Admin is running on the server in order to ensure that the correct path is entered.

The RTF Margins (inches) fields specify the top, bottom, right, and left margins that are to be used when generating a fax for the RTF Body File. The margins are specified in inches. Any margins that are specified in the RTF file are ignored because the script may generate more than one page to fax or may replace information in the script that would cause a line to be wider than desired.

Email Text File is used to specify the name of the file containing the Email receipt text. This file can be created using (among others) Notepad or Word (using the Text Only With Line Breaks file format). This file must be located on the FaxAction Server machine. The drive for this file must be specified as though the user was sitting at the FaxAction Server terminal (usually C), even though the Find button may specify a different drive (such as E).
