OCR Process Changes

 

Scansoft OCR

As discussed in the Admin documentation, the OCR process now supports Scansoft OCR. This OCR engine is a separate, purchasable option.

 

Troubleshooting

Two minor enhancements have been made to the OCR process to aid in troubleshooting problem images:

 

·     The OCR process now supports communication logging to track as much communication as possible between the OCR engine and FaxAction.

 

·     Error messages from PrimeOCR now include a text description of the problem that was encountered instead of a cryptic number.

 

Error Recovery

Two changes have been made to make the PrimeOCR-specific OCR process more robust:

 

·     If the same image fails to OCR three times in a row, the OCR request is aborted and an OCR error message is sent. This mechanism is designed to prevent the OCR process from locking up due to an image that causes the OCR engine to crash.

 

·     Specific errors that are received from the PrimeOCR engine require that the OCR engine be stopped and restarted. Support for identifying these errors and acting accordingly has been added to the OCR process.
